DENVER – The Mile High City is a great smoker’s town. I’m not talking the leafy-green variety that has made Denver the nation’s counter-culture capital. I’m talking cigars.
Why cigars? They’re nostalgic – classic. They’re Miles Davis and they’re Bugsy Siegel. They’re lucky. Cigars are un-apologetically non-PC. They’re rich, decadent. Masculine.
So why is Denver the perfect cigar town?
Cigars are easy like a sunset and as sophisticated as an hour with Anthony Bourdain. As a city, Denver is that perfect combination of the wild, untamable west of lore and the modern sophistication of the 21st Century.
Like life in the Mile High, smoking a great cigar is far from pretentious. I burned my last stick on my front porch swing. No tuxedo. No 12-year; just an easy smoke surrounded by the crisp winter chill. My only company was my Aussie mix, but I doubt she cared.
Smoking cigars is a pair of jeans. Tell me, when was the last time you felt out of place in a pair of jeans anywhere in Denver?
Cigars are by nature accessible, so every neighborhood in the Metro has access to a gem of a cigar shop. From the Tobacco Leaf in Lakewood to Tewksbury & Company in the heart of Writer Square, cigars are enjoyed by all walks of life.
